Now that I have a family of my own, I feel like I always need more room. While it might seem like a good idea to run out and buy a larger vehicle, it’s not always the best solution- especially if you end up driving alone a good portion of the time.
For someone like me, with two kids and a tight gas budget, a small or mid-sized SUV is a solution. However, when our whole family takes to the road, there is no room left for the dogs, grandma, or anyone else.
Many years ago, smaller SUVs tried to cram in third row seating with some pretty sorry results. But now, Hyundai has pulled off the previously thought impossible. I know many of our Checkered Flag Hyundai fans will be glad to welcome the upcoming 2013 Santa Fe with third row seating.
Hyundai rolls out promised three-row Santa Fe for LA
By Zach Bowman
Hyundai has unveiled the production version of its six- and seven-passenger Santa Fe at the 2012 LA Auto Show. The new creation will be sold alongside the five-passenger Santa Fe Sport and offers buyers a 3.3-liter direct-injection V6 with 290 horsepower and 252 pound-feet of torque. Coupled to a six speed automatic transmission, the driveline delivers a 5,000-pound tow rating, and an optional all-wheel-drive system should provide a little extra traction for drivers in snowy climes.
With an extra 3.9 inches of wheelbase over the Santa Fe Sport, the new seven-passenger CUV delivers two inches more leg room in the second row as well as a functional third row of seating. Total cargo volume also swells from 71.5 cubic feet behind the front seats in the Santa Fe Sport to 80.0 cubes in the larger variant. The seven-passenger Santa Fe also serves up 13.5 cubic feet of cargo area behind its third-row seat.
Hyundai estimates the 2013 Santa Fe will deliver 18 mpg city and 25 mpg highway in front-wheel-drive configuration, while adding all-wheel-drive to the mix will drop those figures by 1 mpg highway. You can check out the full press release below for more information.
